FREWSBURG - Unlocked homes, garages and cars have become the target of burglars in Frewsburg, according to police.
Sergeant Investigator James Rensel of the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office said four burglaries occurred in the area of Frew Run Road on or around Sunday. It hasn't been determined if these crimes are related.
"These are crimes of opportunity on unlocked cars and homes," Rensel said. "(Our worry) is that they can escalate."
The Sheriff's Office is pooling information with the Carroll Police Department and State Police to aid in the investigation, Rensel said.
No details about the items stolen or possible suspects have been released.
Tim Wright, chief of the Carroll Police Department, encourages residents to lock their cars, doors and garages.
"These are crimes of opportunity on unlocked cars and homes."
"Don't be an easy target," Wright said. "People can become complacent (during the holidays). Unfortunately, there are people out there that don't mind stealing things (and taking advantage of this)."
Wright advises that any suspicious activity or information on the above burglaries be reported to the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office "WeTip" number 800-78-CRIME (800-782-7463).
