FRANKLIN, Pa. - Six members of the Lakewood Starz YMCA Gymnastics team competed in the Twinkling Lights Tumbling Nights Christmas Invitational last weekend.
With each member placing in the top three in at least one event, the Starz were shining bright. Not only did each member place in the top three, but also each individual all-around score improved from its previous competition.
In Level 7, Emily Walsh placed first on the uneven bars with an 8.45, and a 33.2 all-around for fourth place.
For the Level 3s, Rheese Maggio placed second on bars for her age group with an 8.1. Saida Bronner placed first on the bars with an 8.7, and had second-place finishes on the floor exercise (9.4) and all-around (36.2). Madison Belli had first-place finishes on bars (8.1), beam (9.0), floor (9.0), and all-around (33.85). Brittany Kightlinger had second-place finishes on bars (7.4), beam (8.9), floor (8.55), and all-around (33.05). Rounding out the competitors was Naomi Engstrom, who had third-place finishes on vault (8.35), bars (7.3), floor (8.1), and all-around (31.35).
With such strong scores for the Level 3 team, the Starz improved their team score by 1.65 points from the previous competition for a second-place finish.
The Starz return to action on Saturday in Oil City, Pa., with a tri-meet between The Starz, the Oil City Tri-Stars and the Titusville Twisters.
