LAKEWOOD - In an attempt to offer support to area writers, Emeritus of Lakewood will host an event that puts its residents in the same room with local authors.
Emeritus of Lakewood is set to host a number of writers for a "Meet Local Authors" event Thursday beginning at 2 p.m. Many authors have been invited to the event, and more are welcome to join. Those who have been invited include: Paul Leone, Helen Ebersole, Linda Anderson, Susan Masters, Yoli, Michael Yahn, Sally Teeter, Wendy Lou Ellen and Gail Black. The Chautauqua Bookstore is also set to make an appearance.
According to Theresa Perrin, life enrichment director for Emeritus, the goal is to host entertaining and educational events with the community in mind.
"It's not just for our residents, but also to draw the public in," Perrin said. "There are so many things in our area that should be highlighted. So, I thought it might be interesting to see how many authors we have in our area - I was surprised to find we have so many."
In addition to the event, Emeritus also hosts a literary group in which a volunteer comes in each Thursday to read to the residents. So, the event fits in perfectly with regular programming, Perrin said.
"Here at Emeritus, many of our residents are avid readers who read a variety of books," Perrin said. "It's an opportunity for our residents to meet the authors, to see some of the works that they have written and maybe even buy them to have the books autographed."
The event is free and open to the public, and will include refreshments. Emeritus is located at 220 Southwestern Drive in Lakewood. For more information, call 665-2414 or visit www.emeritus.com/new-york/lakewood-senior-living/emeritus-lakewood.
