The Chautauqua County-Jamestown Airport will host a grand-opening ceremony and ribbon-cutting event for the Tarmac Cafe on Tuesday, at noon.
"We are very fortunate to have been approached by Michelle Johnson and Craig Benson to open a '50s-themed cafe offering a full-service breakfast and lunch menu," said Sam Arcadipane, airport manager.
The new cafe tenants are also the owners of Brown Bag Gourmet, a catering business that delivers home-cooked meals once a week or daily.
Looking to expand into a full-service restaurant, Johnson and Benson learned of the airport's need to provide food services to travelers, meeting groups and the workforce around the airport including the Airport Industrial Park occupants.
"Once we found out the airport was looking for a cafe, we immediately went to the airport manager and within a day, we worked out a theme, menu and hours of operation," Johnson said. "We hope to become a destination venue to enjoy good food at reasonable prices while folks can observe aviation activity."
The Tarmac Cafe is open Mondays through Thursdays from 5:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Fridays from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. for their weekly fish fry. They are also open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and offer a brunch buffet on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cafe also offers extended hours as needed to host business meetings and service bookings for the conference rooms provided at the airport.
