Damon William Janes, 16, of Brocton, N.Y., went to be with the Lord on Monday afternoon, Sept. 16, 2013, at Women & Children's Hospital in Buffalo, N.Y., surrounded by his loving family.
Damon was born on June 21, 1997, in Westfield, N.Y., and was the son of Dean W. Janes and Penny L. Gilbert-Robinson of Brocton, N.Y.
Damon was currently a junior at Brocton Central School, Brocton, N.Y. His great love of sports began by playing soccer at the early age of 4. He went on by participating in basketball, street hockey, ice skating and snowboarding. Damon was a phenomenal football player who gained great respect throughout the county. He has been playing football since the age of 9 and proudly wore No. 25 this year. His true passion was with his love of motocross and his bike proudly wore his favorite No. 711. Damon was an avid fisherman and hunter and excelled in everything he ever did.
Damon had a love for life and lived life to the fullest. He put 110 percent in everything he ever did. His motto was "Giving up is simply not an option." His contagious personality was loved by everyone he encountered. He was a big jokester and trickster and was one to never hold back a comment to make you laugh and make your day brighter. Damon's hugs were unforgettable. They would literally take your breath away.
Besides his parents, Damon is survived by two brothers: Dean R. Janes and Dylin Williams, and one sister, Hailey G. Williams, all of Brocton, N.Y.; his paternal grandparents: Walter Bud and Linda Janes of Brocton, N.Y.; his maternal grandmother, Ruth Gilbert; his maternal great-grandmother, Ada Gilbert.; and his aunts and uncles: Greg (Jen) Janes, Kerri (Kurt) Smith, Larimey Gilbert, Ryan Wakeley, and David and Kate Robinson. Also surviving are special people: Keith Williams and Amy Thorpe.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday morning, Sept. 21, 2013, at 11 a.m. from Lakeshore Assembly of God, 252 E. Main St., Westfield, NY 14787.
The Rev. Scott Lashbrook will officiate. Interment will follow at the Portland Evergreen Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the Morse Funeral Home, 51 Highland Ave., Brocton, N.Y., on Thursday (Sept. 19, 2013) from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and Friday (Sept. 20, 2013) from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The family suggests memorials be made to any branch of the Community Bank where a memorial fund has been set up under the title Damon Janes Memorial Fund.
