Reunion Is Oct. 4
The Jamestown High School class of 1944 reunion will be held at the Moon Brook Country Club for a luncheon at noon on Oct. 4. All members of the class of 1944 are urged to attend as plans are being made for the 70th reunion in 2014. Please make reservations with Sally Bootey at 763-4605 on or before Sept. 27.
Thrift Shop Has New Selection
St. Luke's Thrift Shop, 409 Pine St. between East Fourth and East Fifth streets, Jamestown, has a new selection of sweaters and jackets for men, women, and children. "New" fall and winter clothing for men, women, including junior and plus sizes, and children is available. Small household items and jewelry are also available. All items are in good, clean condition. Fall hours for sales and receiving are Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; receiving only is on Tuesday 9 a.m. to noon. Off-street parking is available in the church parking lot off East Fifth Street. This is a nonprofit enterprise with all proceeds going to local outreach, and has been in operation for 31 years.
Family Night Held Every Thursday
The Winifred Crawford Dibert Boys & Girls Club offers Family Night every Thursday from 6-9 p.m. Families must come together and stay together with parents supervising their children in program areas. The game rooms and computer lab are open from 6-9 p.m. Swimming is open from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Lifeguards are on duty but parents must be in the pool or pool area while their children swim. The third Thursday of every month is the Family Plus event. For Sept. 19 there will be a Back To School Supplies Bingo Fun Night where families can play bingo to win notebooks, crayons, pens, markers and other school supply prizes. The cost for family night is $1 for nonmembers (ages 5 and up); and free for members and those under 5. The WCD Boys & Girls Club of Jamestown is a United Way agency and all youth programming is funded in part by the United Way of Southern Chautauqua County.
Rummage Sale Is Friday, Saturday
ELLINGTON - There will be a rummage sale Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Ellington United Methodist Church, 776 W. Main St., Ellington.
Active Aging Event Is Sept. 26
The sixth annual Journey to Active Aging Event workshop and luncheon will be Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club. Doors open at 8 a.m.; the program begins at 9. Lunch will take place at noon. Dr. Steve Dofitas of the Dent Neurological Institute, Buffalo, will be the keynote speaker. The topic is "Keeping Your Brain Healthy as You Age." The event will feature door prizes, giveaways and a free hearing screening. Lunch includes: chicken salad on a croissant, fruit salad, dessert, coffee, hot tea, lemonade and water. No walk-ins will be permitted. The prepaid cost is $7 per meal. Checks may be made payable to Journey to Active Aging Workshop to the Riverwalk Center, 15 S.
