The Prendergast Library has named four area residents as prize winners for participation in its Summer Reading Challenge.
Sarah Nocero and Zhane Foster, grand prize winners among children, were awarded bicycles through support from the Jamestown Cycle Shop. Matt Wilson, teen winner, and Connie Mead, adult winner, each received a Kindle Fire HD.
This year the library extended the summer reading promotion from six to 10 weeks, added both teen and adult components, and offered 122 programs.

The Jamestown Cycle Shop made it possible for Prendergast Library to offer two bicycles as grand prizes for children who were active in its Summer Reading Challenge. Matt Wilson and Connie Mead each received a Kindle Fire HD, the incentive for teen and adult participants.
According to Tamara McIntyre, family literacy librarian, children recorded 230,600 minutes of reading; teens read 833 books; and adults read 614.
The goal of the summer reading program was to encourage reading and library use among family members of all ages.
Information about fall programming now underway is available by phone at 484-7135 and on the library's website at www.prendergastlibrary.org. The library is located at 509 Cherry St., Jamestown.
