CANANDAIGUA - Penalty kicks were the formula used to settle a double-overtime men's soccer battle between Jamestown Community College and Finger Lakes CC in the Finger Lakes CC Classic on Saturday in NJCAA Region 3 Division III action.
There was no scoring through regulation and two overtimes, so penalty kicks were used to decide the winner and JCC (2-0) came out on top.
The Jayhawks made four penalty kicks with Nolan Farr recording the first goal. Evan Ahlstrom scored the second goal, Erik Olson the third goal and Jason Pembridge the fourth.
JCC goalie Tyler Dykstra stopped two of the first three shots and got a piece of a third shot although a goal was scored. Dykstra, who made 10 saves, got credited for his second shutout of the season.
Gage Bird had a few good scoring chances and Mike Morris hit the crossbar for JCC.
JCC plays Mohawk Valley CC, which lost to the Jayhawks in the season's opener, 2-0, at 1 p.m. today in the second round of the round-robin tournament.
Mercyhurst North East edged Mohawk Valley, 2-1, in double overtime in the first round.
