Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down

Thumbs up to the Lakeview Avenue Community Action Project, which will hold a block party and neighborhood flea market from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The project is a group of property owners and renters interested in encouraging responsible home ownership and rentership on Lakeview Avenue. It has partnered with the Northside Pride neighborhood association and Christ First United Methodist Church for the event, which also includes a chicken barbecue. The block party comes on the heels of Neighborhood Night Out, which saw several neighborhoods host block parties. Neighbors can talk about things happening in the neighborhood, compare notes on issues and just enjoy some time with each other. Such activity is an important tenet of the city's Neighborhood Revitalization Plan and is a step toward rebuilding a sense of community that seems to have been lost in the city over time.
