CHERRY CREEK - The 2013 Cherry Creek Summer Gazebo Concert Series will conclude Thursday at 6:30 p.m. with music by Slim Griffin & The Country Gentlemen. Just prior to the concert, at 6 p.m., the community is invited to the first annual Community Picnic. Those planning to attend the picnic should bring a dish to pass and their own table service. Beverage will be provided. The concert and the picnic will be held in the Memorial Park, located behind the Town Hall on Main Street in the village. For those not planning to attend the picnic, supper-type refreshments will be available.
Those planning to attend the concert reminded to bring a lawn chair for seating.
The concert will take place rain or shine. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held at the Pine Valley VFW, Route 82, in Cherry Creek.
Popular with regular concert attendees, Slim Griffin and the Country Gentlemen have appeared in the Gazebo concert series composed of Slim and Phil Griffin, plus one other musician that varies with each performance, have performed together for a number of years. As their name implies, they play country music and are regularly featured in summer concerts in the local area. In 1983 they were awarded first place in the local Wrangler Show Down contest, and second place in the statewide contest.
The 2013 Cherry Creek Summer Gazebo Concert Series, entitled "Easel Yourself Into Music" endeavored to bring the visual arts together with musical expression. The concert series is sponsored by the Cherry Creek Community Association Inc., and funded in part by the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Re-grant Program, supported by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, and administered by the Cattaraugus County Arts Council, area businesses, and town and village of Cherry Creek and community members.
