WESTFIELD - The Station Art Gallery and Studio of Katherine Brown Galbraith will present Plein Air Westfield, July 31 through Aug. 3. The invitational event will feature artists from Pennsylvania, Maryland, Missouri and New York City as well as several Westfield area artists and photographers.
Artists will paint in and around the village of Westfield including scheduled sessions at the Nass Day Lilly Farm, Keep Tryst Farm, Barcelona Harbor, Chautauqua Gorge, Johnson Estate Winery and on Saturday, Aug. 3, beginning at 9 a.m., the group will paints scenes from the Farmers' Market in Moore Park. Plein Air Westfield will culminate with a Wet Paint Show and Sale at The Station Gallery, 11 English St., from 5-7 p.m, which is open to the public.
Event organizer/artist and owner of The Station Gallery & Studio, Katherine Brown Galbraith, explains that while this event is by invitation only, she plans to establish an annual Plein Air Westfield, attracting artists from all over the country.
"I want to establish a setting where artists inspire artists; where we can learn from each other, and inspire each other," adds Galbraith. "Plein Air Westfield is being modeled after the Artists' Colony in Gettysburg. Similar to the Impressionists in Paris, we will live together, paint together and learn together."
Galbraith adds, "And of course, we will have a show and sale. You can't attract professional artists without the opportunity to show and sell their work."
Eventually Galbraith hopes to entice the entire village of Westfield to partner with Plein Air Westfield. "I hope to get the community involved whether in hosting, housing, sponsorships, prizes, etc. The goal is to put Westfield on the map as a destination for art and I think the best way to do that is through Plein Air Westfield."
The Station Gallery & Studio opened in May and is home to nationally recognized artist Katherine Brown Galbraith whose representational work includes landscapes, portraits, trains and images from Chautauqua County and Chautauqua Institution. She is a member of Oil Painters of America, the Portrait Society of America and the North Shore Arts Alliance.
The Station Gallery is open Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. or by appointment.
