The mission of Creche has always been to help needy children in the Jamestown community. The organization has been fulfilling that mission for 113 years.
In 1943, during the war, Creche Tag Days had its beginnings. Tag Days are still the group's biggest fundraiser of the year. On select summer weekends, members stand in front of various businesses, with permission, asking customers for donations to "help Creche help a needy child" and handing out the now familiar red-and-white, diamond-shaped tags.
The organization also is supported by Friends of Creche, a group of loyal people, organizations, and companies who make personal donations to help Creche accomplish its goals. This year, Jamestown Cycle Shop has joined the ranks of Friends of Creche by donating a bike to be given away this summer to benefit Creche and its goals. The bike is an 820 Trek Hybrid that is valued at $350. The giveaway sale is going on now, and the winner will be selected on Aug. 5. Tickets are available at the Cycle Shop or from any member of Creche.
