To The Reader's Forum:
The writer in Friday's (June 28) Reader's Forum letter made it a point to state that overturning DOMA had everything to do with allowing people to love each other without fear of discrimination. Since when was loving someone illegal or discriminatory?
How about being honest and admitting that the primary effect of the ruling is a raid on the U.S. Treasury and the hard-working taxpayers of this country. The case before the Supreme Court dealt with a loving same sex partner unable to avoid paying a large estate tax payment to the government. DOMA had nothing to do with love but it was crafted to prevent yet another raid on the U.S. Treasury.
