SOUTH VALLEY - State Police have released the name of the Falconer resident who was believed to have suffered a medical emergency when he crashed his motorcycle Monday morning.
Richard A. Schulz, 53, of Taylor Street, was found dead at the scene by first responders on the side of Bone Run Road in the town of South Valley. The Cattaraugus County 911 center received a call around 11:30 a.m. that a northbound motorcyclist had struck an embankment.
Frewsburg firefighters and Cattaraugus County Coroner Howard T. VanRensselaer responded, State Police said.
Sgt. Richard Kota said it appeared Schulz may have experienced a medical problem shortly before the crash. The motorcycle appeared to veer abruptly off the road, he said.
According to a police report, a passing motorist saw Schulz, who reportedly was wearing a helmet, clutch his chest just prior to the incident. Family members told police the victim had not been feeling well, and noted the family had a history of heart problems.
No autopsy has been scheduled, Van Rensselaer said.
Calling hours for Schulz will be from 4-7 p.m., Thursday, at the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., in Randolph. The funeral service will be Friday at 11 a.m.
