Laurie Livingston is the new executive director for Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County.
"We believe that Laurie has the talent and background to further strengthen and expand the association in new areas," said Tom Frederes, board of directors president.
Livingston has a varied background professionally throughout her 30 years within Chautauqua County. She was employed with Jamestown Community College for 18 years. Following that she moved over to the nonprofit arena; most recently working for Warren-Forest Counties Economic Opportunity Council Inc. as grants administrator in Warren, Pa.
In wanting to broaden her education, Livingston returned to college in 2001, graduating from Houghton College P.A.C.E. program earning a bachelor's in management, continuing on to St. Bonaventure University earning a master's degree in professional leadership with a concentration in nonprofit management. She is a member of the Chautauqua Leadership Network's class of 1998; Jamestown Chapter of New York State Women's Inc., Jamestown Interclub Council, and currently serves on the Allocations Panel for United Way of Southern Chautauqua County.
"Growing up in northern New York (St. Lawrence County), I was an active member of the local 4-H Club which provided me an opportunity to learn everyday skills with hands-on learning that I continue to use today," Livingston said. "Being a resident of Chautauqua County for 30 years has given me an appreciation for all that our county has to offer."
Livingston believes that service to the community is not only important but very necessary.
"I look forward to working with the staff at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County, and our community in fulfilling our mission. In doing so, I will be able to share my passion and love for Chautauqua County," Livingston said.
The Cornell Cooperative Extension educational system enables people to improve their lives and communities through partnerships that put experience and research knowledge to work.
