Ziebart of Jamestown on Fluvanna Avenue, Jamestown, will host a benefit car wash from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 13, to support the Kids and Cancer Benefit Run.
Proceeds will be donated to the run, which will be held July 20 starting in Bradford.
The Kids and Cancer Run initially started in 1998 as a way to share, with other motorcyclists, the physical beauty of the area and the freedom of "cruising" the roads in and around the Allegheny National Forest and the Kinzua Dam area. One of the goals, of course, was to generate money for charitable causes but also to promote the tourist attractions of the area.
Nine thousand individuals have participated in the past 15 runs, with participants from Germany, Canada, Arizona, Florida, Texas, Indiana, Nebraska, North and South Carolina, Ohio, New York, Maryland and Pennsylvania. In 2006, the Kids and Cancer Benefit committee decided to add another aspect to the activities and has sponsored a motorcycle giveaway each year. The giveaways have generated additional charitable contributions and allowed those who do not ride to become involved.
Through the generosity of Run participants and ticket purchasers, the Kids & Cancer Committee has been able to donate more than $200,000 since 1998 to individuals, medical facilities, cancer-related organizations, and various service clubs that benefit children and their families
