The Amelia G. Jachym Scholarship was established in 1982. The scholarship was established by the late Mr. John Jachym and his wife, Mrs. Audrey Jachym, in memory of Mr. Jachym's mother. Mr. Jachym, a former resident of the district, graduated in 1935 from the South Dayton High School. His wife, Audrey (Gleichman) Jachym, was also a local resident and a 1942 graduate of the South Dayton High School. Because of their interest in the Pine Valley area and their desire to further the education of deserving youth of the district, this memorial scholarship was established. The student, selected by an awards panel, must be in the upper 20% of the class academically and exhibit outstanding character, citizenship and leadership.
The 2013 recipient, Stephanie Popielarz has earned an academic average of 92.05 percent during her four years at Pine Valley High School. She will graduate with an Advanced Regents Diploma and has been on the honor roll all four years of high school.
Stephanie is a silent leader among the student body at Pine Valley Central School. Stephanie also served on the School Board as a student representative.
When she is not participating in school activities, Stephanie can usually be found engaging in community service activities. She volunteers at St Joseph's Church in Fredonia providing assistance organizing charitable fundraising events.
Academically, Stephanie has built a solid foundation that will facilitate her future career goals. Stephanie will be attending Jamestown Community College where she will pursue studies in accounting and business management.
