BPU electric crews restored power to the industrial area of the territory Tuesday afternoon. The problem was resolved through the replacement of two transformers and the testing of other transformers in the area.
Around 9:15 p.m. Monday, a transformer at Dow and Allen streets failed.
The Falconer Fire Department quickly responded to a report of a large explosion and fire at the corner of Allen Street Extension and South Dow Street in the town of Ellicott.
Upon arrival fire officials found a side of the Rand Machine Products building on fire.
"A transformer exploded on the side of the building," Falconer Fire Chief Chris Doverspike said Monday night.
Within minutes the fire, contained to the outside of the building, was extinguished.
A nearby resident said he heard two large explosions around 9:15 p.m. that sounded like a shotgun, and then the lights in his home flickered momentarily. No sustained power outages or injuries were reported as a result of the transformer explosion.
Kennedy firefighters assisted at the scene of the fire.
A power outage also occurred at 3:45 p.m. Monday in the industrial section of BPU territory, causing the loss of electricity at Titan and the former Bush Industries, Crawford and Sterling facilities on Allen Street.
