LAKEWOOD - Lakewood United Methodist Church will host an organ recital Sunday at 3 p.m. The recital is in conjunction with the Lakewood United Methodist Church's 100th anniversary celebration.
The church is located on the corner of Shadyside and Summit in Lakewood. A free-will offering taken for the Organ Fund. Refreshments will be served following the recital.
Brian A. Bogey and Ronald McEntire, organists, will perform Mendelssohn Piano Concerto No. 2 with piano and organ. They will be playing the Johnson and Son, Tracker Organ built in 1886.
Bogey is the minister of music and worship at Zion Covenant Church in Jamestown. He previously served as organist-choirmaster of the Jamestown First Lutheran Church for 31 years.
Bogey retired from a 34-year teaching career, of which the last 21 years he served as the director of choral activities at Jamestown High School. His a cappella choir became known as the "Choir of Cathedrals," singing throughout the United States, Canada, England, Austria, Germany and Italy. His First Lutheran choir also had a concert tour to Sweden, Norway and Denmark in 1982. He currently directs the Jamestown Community College choir and is head of the organ department at the State University at Fredonia. He directs the Living Christmas Tree at the Jamestown First Covenant Church and recently retired from being director of the Jamestown Choral Society. He also serves as sub dean of the Chautauqua Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. Brian is married to the former Sandra Kae Nelson, and they have three grown children and two grandchildren.
McEntire moved to Jamestown when he was 14 and began organ and piano study with Florence Sandburg at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. He graduated from Jamestown High School and went to Houghton College, where he majored in organ performance. In his junior year, he fell in love with his new organ professor, and they moved to Los Angeles, where he graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Music degree in organ performance.
He has studied early keyboard playing with Dr. Sondra Soderlund of Berkeley, Calif. He also has a Master of Science degree in school administration from Pepperdine University and a certificate in management accounting. He retired from school administration as associate superintendent of business services for the South San Francisco Unified School District in 2006 and moved back to Jamestown, where he was the director of music at St. Luke's Episcopal Church and is currently organist at Christ First United Methodist Church. He has studied piano with Dr. Shirley Yoo at Mercyhurst College. McEntire performs for many organizations and teaches organ and piano privately.
