Special Meeting Is Wednesday
MAYVILLE - As requested by motion of the Chautauqua County Legislature at the regular meeting held on May 22, Chairman Jay Gould has scheduled a special meeting of the legislature to be held on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Legislative Chambers of the Gerace Office Building. The purpose of the meeting will be to consider any additional action as may be necessary regarding adopted Resolution 101-13, entitled "Supporting Passage of A.7431 & S.5088- An ACT to amend the tax law, in relation to allocation of revenue from the hotel and motel taxes in Chautauqua County; and to amend chapter 405 of the laws of 2007, amending the tax law relating to increasing hotel/motel taxes in Chautauqua County, in relation to extending the expiration of such provisions." Such additional action concerning Resolution 101-13 may include, but not be limited to, action to renew, amend, or rescind the resolution.
Set For Tonight
Mayor Sam Teresi will hold the next in his series of Neighborhood Walking Tours today at 6:30 p.m. This tour will cover the entire length of Harris Avenue. The door-to-door visit will provide residents with a unique opportunity to express comments or concerns in a one-on-one environment with the mayor. Cemetery Tours Begin In June
Lake View Cemetery, 907 Lakeview Ave., Jamestown, will offer monthly walking tours of the cemetery beginning in June. The one-hour tours will each have a different theme, highlighting many new persons and stories. The tours are free, but reservations are appreciated. Comfortable shoes and appropriate dress for the weather are recommended. Announcements will be published each month in The Post-Journal and on the cemetery website, www.lake-view-cemetery.com. Donations will be accepted.
To Host Banquet
The Women's Club of Lakewood will hold its annual spring banquet today, at the Athenauem Hotel at Chautauqua Institution. Their chefs will create a "Farm to Table" experience that encompasses the bounty provided by our local region's growing seasons for the approximately 100 members and guests of the club. Laurie Stanton, manager of group sales and senior programs at Chautauqua and a member of the club, will give a presentation while the guests dine and take a short video tour through some of the local farms that supplied the meal. Legion Elects 2013 Officers
At a recent meeting of the Sons of the Legion Samuel L. Derby Post 556, the following officers were elected for the upcoming year: Squadron Commander Daryl Dutchess, 1st Vice President Richard Moord, 2nd Vice Miaha Station, 3rd Vice James Robers, Historian Bruce Peterson, Sergeant of Arms Paul Yetskey, Chaplain Donald Schrader Sr. and Finance Officer Boyd Shaffer. The swearing in ceremonies will be held at the Samuel L. Derby Post 556 on Monday. Sign up sheets for the ceremonies and dinner will be posted at the legion.
