BUSTI - Clear, dry and cold described Saturday night at Stateline Speedway for the Valone Ford NDRL ULMS Super Late Model-sanctioned event and 22 drivers were on hand for the 30-lap, $3,000-to win affair.
Robbie Blair won his qualifying heat from the back winning the pole for race and never looked back. Two laps from the end Dave Hess Jr. the ULMS point leader and last week's Stateline winner crashed hard into the turn one fence. Mike Knight mounted a late race challenge, but ran out of laps.
Third-generation driver Ryan Scott won his first Limited Late feature of the season and came back later in the evening to win his first Crate Late Model event while Brent Rhebergen won a caution-filled E-Mod feature passing early leader Chad Carlson on lap 11. The 2012 Super Sportsman champ, Dan Nocero, Jr. won his first feature on the year after a heated battle with Mike Kosinski and Chris Withers passed veteran Brian Crandall on lap 5 of the Street Stock feature for his first of the season.
Stateline Speedway officials and safety personnel attempt to extricate driver Dave Hess after a wreck coming out of the first turn left his car pinned between the wall and safety fencing at Stateline Speedway on Saturday night. Hess walked away from the wreckage with only minor injuries. See additional photos at cu.post-journal.com.

Casey Burch returned to victory lane in the Super Challenger main,
Ryan Scott jumped to the lead on the start of the Limited Late feature with Chris Ottaway second and John Cline third. Ottaway was able to pull alongside Scott, but unable to complete the pass. The Tyler Green veered suddenly into the infield on lap 12, but the race remained green. Lap 16 put the leaders into lap traffic. With two laps remaining Scott was in complete control. At the checkers it was all Scott and Nathan Short nipped Ottaway at the line.
Blair and Russ King were on the front row for the Valone Ford NDRL ULMS 30-lap feature event. Chris Hackett and Dave Hess Jr. were in row two with Bump Hedman and Scott Gurdak in row three. Blair took the green and the lead, but the yellow flew before the lap could be completed as John Lacki had spun in turn four.
On the restart lap, Andy Boozel spun in turn three the yellow flew but the lap was counted. Again the restart was marred as Lacki spun in turn two. Once the race went green Mike Knight was the big mover gaining the third spot by lap six. Matt Lux pulled into the infield on lap 10 as Blair caught the tail end of the field. Defending Stateline champ Dutch Davies retired on lap 11.
Knight caught King just before the halfway point to race for second as Blair weaved through heavy lap traffic. Hess moved up to make it a three-way race for second. With 10 laps remaining Blair had 15 car lengths. Knight made the pass stick on King and began to close with Blair. Hess set King back another spot with five laps to go. Knight was slowly closing with Blair.
Hess made heavy contact with the turn-one wall ending upside down between the wall and the catch fence bringing out the red flag, Hess had scrapped the front stretch wall two laps earlier which may have caused the accident. During the red flag, Knight had to leave the speedway because of a right rear flat and rejoined the end of the field for the restart.
The crowd was thrilled to hear then Hess had exited the car on his own.
Once the red was lifted, 12 cars remained for the final two circuits. Broom Briggs started third and beat King to turn one for the second spot. On the white-flag lap Matt Urban struck the front stretch wall setting up a one-lap dash for the win. Blair won the dash for the $3,000 check and King came back taking second from Briggs at the line.
Doug Ricotta led the first lap of the Crate Late feature with Ryan Scott second and Justin Tatlow third. With six laps complete, Dave Shagla spun to a stop in turn three. Ricotta still led at the halfway point when a spin by veteran Scott Gurdak brought out the second caution. Ricotta, Scott, Tatlow, Bob Dorman and Damian Bidwell were the leaders.
Bidwell moved to fourth on the restart to challenge Tatlow for third. Bidwell continued his charge passing Tatlow on the next circuit. Gurdak suffered a flat causing caution three with five laps remaining. Scott was the new leader after the restart with Bidwell close behind. The checkers fell with Scott just half a car length ahead of Bidwell.
Leonard Enos was the early leader in the E-Mod race. As the first lap ended, four cars tangled for the first caution. The leader retired to the pits during the yellow. Chad Carlson was the new leader with Cale Crocker second and Greg Johnson third.
Jake Eller caused caution two with two laps complete and on the restart joined with Brian Wilson for caution three. Chad Carlson and Johnson made contact on the restart ending with Johnson stopped in turn one for caution four. Johnson refused to take his position on the restart and was disqualified from the event.
Then Eller lost the handle once more for caution five. Chad Carlson, Brent Rhebergen and John Woodward were the leaders.
Rhebergen and Chad Carlson were in a heated battle for the lead, making contact on lap five. Rhebergen moved alongside Chad Carlson several times, but was unable to complete the pass. The sixth yellow appeared for Brian Fardink stopped alongside the track in the exit of turn two.
Justin Carlson stopped for caution seven on the restart. A spin by John Boyd with 10 laps complete caused caution eight. Chad Carlson nearly spun on lap 11 losing the lead to Rhebergen and falling back to the fourth spot. Woodward was second with Enos third.
Wilson and Steve Rex tangled on the front stretch for caution nine with four laps remaining. Chevy Sweet and Tony Marotto caused caution 10 with one lap remaining. Rhebergen held on for the win and Woodward made a last lap pass for second.
Dan Nocero Jr. passed Mike Kosinski for the Super Sportsman lead on lap three. Lap traffic allowed Kosinski back by on lap seven just before Norm Kloszewski nosed into the back stretch fence for caution No. 1. Lap traffic paid Kosinski back as a lap car forced him high on lap 11 allowing Nocero by for the lead. Clint Haskins broke on the front stretch with 12 laps down for the caution No. 2. Nocero had a clear track after the restart and cruised to his first win of the season.
Brian Crandall was on the pole for the Street Stock feature and was the early leade, but yellow appeared with two laps complete. Crandall, Chris Withers, Brandon Groters and Jason Covey were the leaders. A slow car allowed both Withers and Groters to pass Crandall on lap five and then Groters went to the pits leaving Withers and Crandall as the leaders. A three-car tangle with eight laps down brought out the second yellow. Withers, Crandall, Paul Nelson and Eric Harvey were the leaders.
Withers ran the remaining laps unchallenged for his first checkers of the season.
A late-race caution allowed the field to close with Travis Darling and Casey Burch leaders of the Super Challenger feature. Darling went to the pits turning the lead over to Burch. Burch finished out front for his second win of the season.
