FORESTVILLE - Behind a lethal batting attack and the hurling of senior Ryanne Dugan, defending Section 6 Class D softball champion Forestville (15-2) advanced to the semifinals on Friday.
The Lady Hornets recorded 20 hits, all being singles, and Dugan spun a neat three-hitter with 16 strikeouts and zero walks in the lopsided 26-0 quarterfinal win over No. 8 West Valley.
Dugan also hit a batter en route to the shutout for No. 1 Forestville, who now hosts No. 4 Ripley on Tuesday afternoon.
Emily Dillenburg, Cherish Pope, Precious Kaczor and Ashley VanBuskirk and Dugan all had three hits in the win.
Dillenburg drove in three runs, Dugan, Pope and Kaczor two and VanBuskirk one for the winners.
Forestville started off with six in the first inning, eight more in the second, nine in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the sixth.
STEGER LEADS RIPLEY
RIPLEY -Emilee Steger tossed an eight-hitter with eight strikeouts and a walk as No. 4 Ripley (13-4) advanced by beating No. 5 Ellicottville, 13-5.
Ripley was aided by a 12-hit attack that included five players with two hits.
Ryleigh Hawkins, Shanna Mellors, Sam Judd and Allison Bird and Steger all had two singles in the win.
Bird's two-run single keyed a seven-run sixth inning for the hosts.
Morgan Zlockie hit two doubles among her three hits and Alyssa Costello tripled in her two hits for Ellicottville.
Ripley faces host and top-seeded Forestville in the semifinals on Tuesday.
