Jamestown Native Earns Teaching Award

Meryl Lyon-Butler, formerly of Jamestown, was named one of the top three teachers for 2012 in Caroline County, Va. The daughter of Ronald Lyon Sr. and Patricia Lyon of Jamestown, she is a 2003 graduate of Jamestown High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education from the State College at Fredonia in 2007. She moved to Richmond, Va., where she is employed as a fourth-grade reading/language arts and science teacher for Bowling Green (Va.) Elementary School. In 2010 she earned a Master of Education degree from Liberty University in 2010 and in 2012 received the novice Teacher of the Year award. She is married to Michael Butler, the son of Timothy and Mary Butler. She is pictured with her husband.
