Junior Guilders will take area residents on an "An Incredible Journey" that features fairy tale characters in a production with song and dance this weekend.
"An Incredible Journey," directed by Helen Merrill, will debut at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Lucille Ball Little Theatre of Jamestown. Two more performances are scheduled for Saturday at 2 and 7:30 p.m. General admission is $10, and $5 for students, seniors and theater members.
The show features 38 Junior Guilders and 15 members of Children Sing as special guests. The production brings together: Allie, Alice in Wonderland; Cindy, Cinderella; Snow, Snow White; the Seven Dwarves; Glenda the fairy; the Three Little Pigs; the Big Bad Wolves; Belle; Red Riding Hood; Annie Oakley; the Cat in the Hat; Skuttle and Sebastian; and Dorothy and her trio of friends from the Land of Oz.
According to Helen Merrill, writer and director, the production follows Allie and Cindy after they investigate a mysterious journal that Glenda attempts to warn them not to open. Upon opening the journal, the characters begin a journey through an enchanted land to places such as deep in the jungle, under the sea and a stop in paradise with Joseph and his Technicolor Dream Coat.
"When I'm getting ready to do a show I look for a theme. So, I said, 'Gosh we have all those wonderful costumes,' and Lucy (Miller) asked, 'Well why don't you use them all? I thought, 'Yeah, I could go on a journey, an incredible journey,'" said Merrill. "The hard part about this is that you've got so many costumes, so much stuff we've done and so many highlights to do and to try and compose that into a short enough story with a storyline make sense, has been a challenge. It's what I call a fractured fairy tale."
The show is choreographed by Tiffany Wakeley Heintzman, and the set was built by Norm Merrill, set construction director. Lucille Miller will act as music director and piano accompanist. According to Miller, she and Merrill work diligently to ensure that each student gets speaking lines or a song to sing.

"It's so that everybody has the spotlight on them for a minute," said Miller. "In selecting the music we tried to work around things that we have or had done recently and that the kids knew. We've got music from 'Annie Get Your Gun,' 'The Little Mermaid,' 'Seussical,' 'The Jungle Book' and more. There are a lot of solos, duets and trios - it's probably one of the better sounding groups that we've had. In years to come we'll have a really strong group."
Founded in 1983, the Junior Guilders are in their 32nd season of entertaining Jamestown area residents. As it is a volunteer organization, the program is offered at no cost to members. The organization works with children ages 7 through 16. This performance acts as a fundraiser for the organization. For more information about Junior Guilders, visit www.juniorguilders.weebly.com.
