LAKEWOOD - Southern Tier Brewing Company will celebrate American Craft Beer Week with its second annual Public Day from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, a beer and music festival on the brewery's property in Lakewood.
The event is free to the public, and will include live music from A Band Named Sue and The Bogarts. Those attending will receive a 4-ounce souvenir cup and can purchase tickets for samples, which will be $1 each. More than 25 beers will be available to sample, including Pumking, Choklat, Mokah, Old Man Winter, Hop Sun and 2XMas, along with other seasonal and special releases.
Food will be vended by Mike and Pete's BBQ Roadshow, winner of the Jack Daniels Invitational World Barbecue Championship. The Empty Pint will stay open until 10 p.m. Brewery tours normally held on Saturdays at 1, 2:30 and 4 p.m. will be canceled and substituted with multiple shortened tours throughout the day, free of cost.
This event comes just weeks after Southern Tier Brewing Company was ranked 37th in the Top 50 U.S. Craft Brewing Companies, and 48th in the Top 50 Overall Breweries for 2012, a list put together by the Brewers Association.
Upgrades to the brewery include expansion into a 110-barrel Steinecker brewhouse as well as doubling cellar capacity to more than 7,000 barrels. Southern Tier Brewing Company produced 60,000 barrels of beer in 2012, shipped to more than 30 states and seven countries.
"It's great to see Southern Tier Brewing's entrance into the Top 50 Overall Breweries," said Phin DeMink, brewery president. "People are choosing the product that they want to drink. We couldn't have made it on that list without our loyal customers. We are proud and thankful."
