SINCLAIRVILLE - Cassadaga Valley came through in the clutch and produced a dramatic win, coming from behind to down Portville, 4-3, in Division 2 baseball on Tuesday.
The Panthers took the lead in the fourth with two runs and added another in the sixth for the 3-0 lead, but the Cougars (5-2, 5-6) came alive and scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to knot the game at 3-3.
With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Tim Bender was on base and started to steal second when Kenny Oakes smacked a single up the middle and the centerfielder bobbled the ball, allowing Bender to trot home with the winning run.
Oakes was also the winning pitcher for the Cougars, surrendering only four hits while striking out four with two walks. He also contributed three hits and Bender had two hits.
For Portville, Justus Elliott went the distance, striking out seven while giving up nine hits. Elliott also connected for a home run and a single.
FREWSBURG -Frewsburg's Dane Johnson picked up the win with a no-hit performance over four innings and the Bears (5-2, 7-6) produced plenty of offense in a 15-1 rout of Salamanca (0-7).
Johnson struck out six and gave up just two walks as Frewsburg scored five runs in the first, four in the second and six more in the fifth Tage Johnson came through with five hits, including two doubles and a triple and had two RBIs. Trevor Spicer added three hits with a triple and four RBIs; Brett Johnson connected for a triple, three singles and three RBIs; and Bryce Peterson also connected for three hits, including a double and had one RBI.
Spicer followed Johnson in relief, going two innings with two walks and a strikeout and Bryce Raymond finished the game with one strikeout.
Mitchell Gilbert broke up no-hitter for the Warriors in the top of the sixth while Kyler Whitcomb got the loss, issuing one walk with three strikeouts.
