Alvin V. Gustafson, 84, of Falconer, formerly of Sprague Hill Road, went to the Lord at 3:02 a.m. on Tuesday, (April 9, 2013).
Alvin was born Dec. 21, 1928, in Detroit, Mich., the son of Ernest E. Gustafson and Anna Sadowski Gustafson.
Alvin was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. While being drafted at the tail end of war, he served his time aboard the ship USS Leyte and USS Kearsarge.
Following his military service, he began working for the village of Falconer and became an active member of the Falconer Fire Department. When meeting his wife, Marianne Gardner, the couple were wed Dec. 31, 1955. Alvin worked for Steel Partitions, Dowcraft and retired from Carborundum (Monofrax) in 1994.
Alvin was a devoted husband, an amazing father, and a loving grandfather. He was the kindhearted man that wouldn't leave you stranded. As this gentle giant left the world, he divided a little of himself to all he loved.
Alvin is survived by his wife, Marianne (Gardner) Gustafson of Falconer; two children: Brian (Kylie) of Queensland, Australia, and Tami Gustafson of Elling-ton; three grandchildren: Courtney (26) of Jamestown, Kyle (11), and Paige (9) of Queenland, Australia; his sister, Betty (Gustafson) Koudela of Akron, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Alvin was predeceased by his mother, father, step-mother, and three brothers: Clifford, Donald and Magnus (Roy) Gustafson.
The funeral will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Peterson Funeral Home, Frewsburg. The Rev. Chad Sayers, pastor of the Falconer United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
It would be greatly appreciated if memorials in Alvin's honor would be sent to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2826 Strunk Road, James-town, NY 14701.
