ONEIDA - The Jamestown Community College golf team hasn't spent a lot of time together on the course this spring, thanks to the unpredictable Mother Nature, but the Jayhawks seemed unaffected as they almost pulled out a team victory while competing in the Mohawk Valley Invitational, which was played on the par-71 layout at the Oneida Community Golf Course on Friday.
JCC posted a team total of 312, just two strokes behind the tournament winner, Monroe CC, which shot 310.
"This was our first tournament of the season," said JCC coach Brett Mucheck. "It's actually the first time we've really played together since our home course (Chautauqua Golf Club) hasn't been ready."
Conditions at the Oneida course weren't perfect either.
"The course still had snow in some of the traps, so we had a few exceptions made to the rules," said Mucheck. "It was about 30 degrees and snow actually started to fall on the last two holes."
For JCC, Jordan Farnham was the top shooter as he fired a 3-over-par 74, Brenton Wilcox added a 77, Jake Yartz had 79, Andrew Bird shot 82, Chad Buck had 84 and Drew Chattuck carded an 88.
JCC will host its only home tournament of the regular season on Friday on the Lake Course at Chautauqua Golf Club. the Jayhawks ravel to Niagara County CC on Saturday and will play in the Western New York Athletic Conference Championship in Lockport on Sunday.
