PANAMA - Chautauqua County fire investigators have determined the cause of a house fire that started Wednesday night around 9:30 p.m. at 13 South St., in Panama

Investigators say an improperly installed exhaust pipe leading from the wood stove into a chimney caused the fire.

Damage was largely contained to the first floor of the residence.

As of Thursday, the Red Cross was assisting two residents displaced by the fire.
