Major Gen. Patrick A. Murphy, Army National Guard adjutant general, recently announced the reenlistment of New York Army National Guard members.
Local reenlistments include Staff. Sgt. Wayne Abbey of Westfield, who reenlisted to continue service with Company A, 642nd Support Battalion, and Spc. Derek White from Jamestown, who reenlisted to continue service with Troop B, 2-101 Cavalry (Reconnaissance, Surveillance and Target Acquisition).
Two area soldiers have also been promoted. Kurt Bogner from Stockton, serving with the 222nd Military Police Company, has been promoted to private first class. Timothy Maynard of Jamestown, serving with the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 27th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, also has been promoted to private first class.
"Over the past three years the New York Army National Guard has come from far below authorized strength to 100 percent strength," Murphy said in recent remarks. "Our priority is to provide ready forces for both state and federal missions and readiness starts with maintaining our strength. We have more than 16,000 men and women in the Army and Air National Guard with each individual member having an important role."
