Alton L. Deming, 88, of Jamestown, passed away Friday (March 8, 2013), in Heritage Park Rehab & Skilled Nursing Center.
He was born June 28, 1924, in Lander, Pa., the son of the late Lyman and Orpha Johnson Deming.
Alton was a graduate of Jamestown High School, and served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.
In earlier years, he had been a member of the Jamestown Eagles, Elks, and Moose Clubs, Fluvanna War Vets and Lakewood Rod and Gun Club. Alton was one of the founding members of the Falconer Rod and Gun Club, and enjoyed hunting and fishing, traveling, and being very active in the great outdoors. Prior to retirement he had been a home contractor for Ludwig Construction.
Surviving is his daughter Sherry (Norman) Raymond of Falconer; three grandchildren: Michael Raymond of Jamestown, Rebecca Raymond of Maui, Hawaii, Kelly (George) Patti of James-town; four great grandchildren: David Walker and Niki Walker, both of Maui, Hawaii, Harrison T. Patti and Ethan C. Patti, both of Jamestown; two great- great-grandchildren: London and Natalia Walker of Maui; a sister, Alvera Nelson of Jamestown; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a grandson, Norman Raymond Jr.; and a sister, Aylce Deming.
Friends will be received by the family from 2-4 p.m. Sunday in the Falconer Funeral Home. His Funeral service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. The Rev Joseph Janaczek, pastor of Our Lady of Loreto, will officiate. Burial will be in Busti Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be donated to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Road, Jamestown, NY 14701; or to a charity of one's choice.
