Theta Beta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met at the home of Sandy Zenns on Feb. 21. Rose Van Volkenburg and Sandy Zenns presented programs.
Van Volkenburg's program was "The Importance of Laughter," focusing on how laughter can be good medicine. According to the Journal of Women's Health, there is growing evidence both scientific and observational of a clinical association between humor and health. Numerous studies support the benefits of laughter in cardiac rehabilitation, pain perception and discomfort threshold, coping and stress, and immune response. Van Volkenburg shared several Reader's Digest stories and jokes.
In keeping with the Valentine holiday, Zenns shared excerpts form Gladys Taber's "Stillmeadow Seasons."
Taber wrote extensively about nature, community and family. Zenns also shared renowned illustrator Tasha Tudor's book "Around the Year," highlighting Valentine's from years ago.
Joyce Anderson conducted the business meeting. Upcoming events include a visit to the Mayville Senior Apartments on March 21, and the annual Easter Egg Hunt on March 23 at the Sherman Fire Hall. Co-hostesses for the evening were Mary Rogers and Van Volkenburg. The next meeting will be at the home of Tracie Cederquist on Thursday.
