Dawn M. Blanchette, 61, of Gowanda Nursing Home, formerly of Jamestown, went to be with Lord on Friday (Feb. 22, 2013) in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Williamsville, N.Y. Her previous Residence was 104 E. Fourth St., Jamestown, N.Y. She was one of the original tenets of the Fourth Street Apartments.
She was born April 28, 1951, in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Walter C. and Betty Marsh Moody.
Dawn was a graduate of Jamestown High School and had an associate degree. After graduating she was employed by Hope's Windows many years until her disability.
From 1988 to present she served on the Southwestern Independent Living Center Board. She also participated in a group that was called Accessibility Advocates for People with Disabilities. This group fought to make Jamestown more accessible to disabled people. They spoke at council meetings and sometimes protesting outside City Hall. For 20 years she participated in Christian Liturgy for the handicapped.
Dawn will be greatly missed by her friends. For a person who faced many obstacles in life she worked to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities. She was modest in her accomplishment, and we felt blessed to be called her friend.
She had a great love for animals of all kinds. She made her home with her cat Smudgie whom she adored. She greatly missed her deceased cats Bumpy and Maggie May.
Dawn is survived by her extended family and friends: John (Robin) Triscari of Jamestown; Elsie (Pablo) Martinez, Timothy Martinez and family and her personal care aide Dawn Meabon.
She was preceded in death by her father Walter C. Moody in 2002, her mother Betty Moody in 1992 and best friend Junita Caldwell in 2005.
The funeral will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Falconer Funeral Home. The Rev. Aaron Bjork will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
Friends will be received by the family one hour prior to the funeral service Tuesday in the Falconer funeral home.
