RANDOLPH - Thanks to a big third quarter, fourth-seeded Randolph (12-7) will be moving on in the Section 6 Class C-1 playoffs after a hard-fought 68-61 victory over No. 5 Tapestry Charter (11-8) in quarterfinal boys basketball on Friday night.
Early on, the Cardinals found themselves in a close battle, holding on for a one-point lead at the half. But thanks to an offensive explosion by Bryce Morrison, who pounded down 15 of his game-high 27 points, including seven 3-pointers, and Nate Beaver, who dropped in eight of his 13 points, Randolph went on a 26-14 run that helped ice the game.
Cody Oldro also contributed 13 points for the Cardinals in the victory.
"Bryce had a lot of good looks in that third quarter," said Randolph coach Kevin Hind. "We were able to push it to a 13-point lead and they came back on us a little in the fourth, but we were able to hold on. We did a good job and took care of the ball tonight, which helped us down the stretch."
Ajquine Sorgan led Tapestry with 21 points.
