RANDOLPH - A Jamestown man was charged Monday for speeding and drunken driving on the Southern Tier Expressway in Cattaraugus County.
State police out of the Jamestown barracks at 9:13 p.m. observed a vehicle on Interstate 86 traveling at a high rate of speed. Once radar was activated, the vehicle was deemed to be going 105 mph.
Troopers stopped the vehicle, a 1998 SAAB driven by Lawrence J. Walsh, 20, of Pine Ridge Road. A standardized field sobriety test was administered to Walsh, which he failed.
Troopers placed Walsh under arrest. He was transported to police barracks where he provided a blood alcohol sample of .16 percent, twice the legal limit in New York state.
Walsh was charged with speeding, driving while intoxicated and possession of alcohol under the age of 21. Troopers located a can of beer inside the vehicle.
Walsh was issued tickets to appear in Randolph Court at a later date.
