Tony Dolce has stepped forward to chair the Finance Committee of the City Council.
Following the appointment of Vince DeJoy as the director of development, a vacancy was created on both the council and the committee, which council president Greg Rabb worked quickly to fill.
Dolce, R-Ward 2, was recently contacted by Rabb, asking if he would be willing to take over the responsibility of leading the Finance Committee. Dolce, who has been a member of the committee for the past six years, as well as serving on it for several years before that, accepted the offer and was appointed to the position.
"As Councilman DeJoy will soon be leaving the City Council and will no longer be serving as chair of the Finance Committee I have asked Tony Dolce, and he has agreed, to assume the chairmanship," said Rabb. "I want to personally thank Vince for his excellent leadership as chair through five challenging budgets and while we will miss him on council I am looking forward to working with him in his new capacity as executive secretary of JURA where his appointment was unanimously confirmed after I made the motion to accept the mayor's appointment at our last JURA meeting."
Dolce, who has served on the City Council for 18 years, is no stranger to leading a committee. He was chair of the Public Safety Committee in the past and has experience in many of the aspects that he will need to be familiar with in his new role.
"Besides running the meetings and reporting out to the rest of the council, the big issue with chairing the Finance Committee will be the budget," said Dolce. "I'll be in charge of drawing up the schedule for budget meetings and interviewing the department heads when we get into budget deliberations in the fall. My biggest responsibility will be to drive the schedule forward and get the information out to the other council members as much as I can.
"I've been on the committee for a long time and I feel well-prepared and well qualified to run the committee," Dolce continued. "I've worked on every budget for the last 18 years so I feel pretty confident that I know how it all works. Vince wished me well in the position and said that he was looking forward to working with me as a department head."
