The Jamestown Raiders got one step closer to reaching the finals of the Western New York Club Large School playoffs on Thursday, outshooting visiting Alden 38-12 on the way to a convincing 6-1 victory at the Jamestown Saving Bank Arena on Thursday night.
Despite the victory, however, Jamestown will need to defeat Alden once more, this time on Sunday at 7 p.m., in Buffalo. A victory in that game will earn it a place in the finals, which will be held at First Niagara Center on Feb. 26.
Raiders' netminder Tom Fales made 11 saves during the win, which saw Jamestown jump out to a 6-0 lead by the end of the second period.
Justin Andriaccio struck first for the victors, tallying a goal off passes from teammates Rick Hasselman and Jake Andriaccio. Twelve seconds later Dylan Bergman made it 2-0 when he buried a rebound following a shot by Michael Mammoser.
A shot from the point by defenseman Erik Daugharty during a powerplay pushed the cushion to three goals. Assists on that score went to Hasselman and Bergman. Finally, Collin Abbot closed out the whirlwind opening period with a goal from Justin Andriaccio.
Daugharty opened the second period with a shot that deflected off an Alden player and stretched the twine, giving him his second score of the evening. Mitch Dorunda and David Lobb were awarded assists on that play.
Finally, just two minutes after Daugharty's tally, Lobb, from Dorunda, laced a shot over the Alden goaltender's shoulder to give the Raiders a hefty lead, 6-0.
