Dinner and a show will come to Jamestown for only a small donation Friday night.
A soup and salad dinner will be held from 5-6:30 p.m., with a performance by BBCA's vocal ensemble "AcQuire" to follow at 7 p.m.
"AcQuire is going to compete at a festival in Lancaster, Pa. in March, and we're doing our best to raise funds to get us there," said Laura Hotchkiss, the group's director. "So, we're going to be hosting this dinner, and instead of buying tickets, we're asking that guests make a donation to help us get to Lancaster instead."
The group, which consists of 13 students in grades 8-12, will serve as the hosts, waiters, chefs and dishwashers for the event. Following dinner, the group will present a sample of the music it plans to perform at the competition in Lancaster.
Hotchkiss formed the group more than four years ago, and the group has already performed in a few out-of-town competitions where it has fared very well.
"We wanted to give the kids that were really musically inclined a chance to hone their talents and work on some more challenging music than what they're used to in choir," said Hotchkiss. "We've traveled to South Carolina twice for competitions, and the last time we went we had two students make it to the finals in their category.
"We decided to make the dinner free and just ask for donations," continued Hotchkiss. "We think that people are really going to enjoy the dinner and listening to the kids perform. So instead of charging for admission, we just want people to show up, and we know that after they meet the group, they'll want to help get them to their next upcoming competition."
The event, which organizers call "a warm winter's eve with the choir," will take place at Bethel Baptist Church, which is located at 200 Hunt Road in Jamestown. The dinner will be served in the cafeteria, then guests will move to the auditorium for the performance.
