SYRACUSE - The Maple Grove Red Dragons and the Jamestown Red Raiders both moved up in the latest New York State Sportswriters Association boys basketball rankings.
The Red Dragons (13-1) improved two spots to No. 3 in Class C, one place behind Silver Creek (15-0) in games through Feb. 3. The Red Raiders, meanwhile, are No. 25 in Class AA after posting victories over Williamsville North (12-3), an honorable-mention selection, and Lancaster.
Other area ranked boys teams are Olean (14-1), which remains No. 1, in Class B; and Sherman (12-3), No. 8, which bounced up one spot from last week in Class D. Brocton (11-1) and Clymer (10-4) are honorable-mention choices in that classification.
The girls rankings remain unchanged from last week.
Frewsburg (15-1), Chautauqua Lake (12-0) and Randolph (11-3) are 13th, 15th and 25th respectively in Class C, while Sherman (13-1) and Clymer (11-2) are 11th and 15th respectively in Class D.
Olean (11-2) is No. 20 in Class B.
