AMHERST - Eight Jamestown swimmers qualified for next week's Class A Championship following their performances at Saturday's ECIC Swimming and Diving Championship meet at Sweet Home High School.
Orchard Park won the 13-team event with 308.22 points, Williamsville East was second with 300.5 and Clarence third with 292.83.
Jamestown captured ninth with 121 points.
Andrew Caldwell had the best finish for the Red Raiders when he hit the wall sixth with a time of 1:00.18 in the 100 backstroke. He also qualified in the 200 individual medley, where he finished eighth with a time of 2:15.96, and both the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay.
The 200 medley relay team - made up of Andrew Caldwell, Matthew Caldwell, Allan Smith and Rishi Gupta - took eighth behind a personal-best finish of 1:49.42 while the 400 freestyle relay squad - made up of Andrew Caldwell, Smith, Terry Hinman and Charlie Simons - was ninth behind another personal best time of 3:44.92.
Another personal-best showing was made by the 200 freestyle relay squad of Mike O'Brian, Matthew Caldwell, Simons and Gupta when they placed eighth with a time of 1:40.84.
Other qualifiers included Matthew Caldwell, who took 13th in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:09.76, Gupta, who was 16th in the 100 freestyle (55.20), Smith, who was seventh in the 100 butterfly (58.88) and eighth in the 200 freestyle (1:57.99) and Dan Vannauker, who recorded a personal-best 5:36.24 for 13th place in the 500 freestyle.
