Warm temperatures are officially a thing of the past in Chautauqua County. A lake effect snow warning is in effect for much of the Southern Tier, with the potential of 2 to 4 inches of accumulation Thursday.
The National Weather Service issued the snow warning through 6 p.m. Friday, and also includes Cattaraugus and Allegany counties. Anywhere from 4 to 8 inches of snow is expected tonight and another 4 to 7 inches on Friday.
A high wind warning also is in effect for much of the region, with gusts up to 60 mph.

The winter weather is a far cry from earlier this week, when temperatures reached 59 degrees in Jamestown on Wednesday.
Numerous accidents have been reported due to the weather. The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office said a tractor trailer jackknifed on Route 60 around 10:30 a.m. in the town of Gerry due to heavy winds and wintry conditions. Traffic was reduced to a single lane for more than two hours. The driver of the truck was not charged.
A snow plow from the Town of Ellicott Highway Department ended up in the ditch on Horton Road around 1 p.m. Thursday. Police and members of the highway department responded to the scene.
