Mattie Arvilla Leach, 88, of Fairmount Avenue, passed away Friday (Jan. 25, 2013) at home.
She was born in Pea Ridge, Ark., on Dec. 24, 1924, the daughter of Emmett L. and Clara E. (Thomas) Caldwell. She had resided part-time in Jamestown, and part-time in Dunedin, Fla.
Arvilla worked as a supervisor for the U.S. government in the mine safety and health department in Wilkes Barre, Pa., and was a former member of the Alfred Union University Church. She loved her family, grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, David Miles Leach, in 1992; a son, Patrick Leach, in 1953; a brother, Lee Thomas Caldwell; and four sisters: Elva Madge Johnson, Bethel Belle Carden, Susan Mae Robbins and Lennie Dean Dunham.
She is survived by a son; David Michael (Carolyn) Leach of Sherman; two grandchildren: Mark Andrew (Heather) Leach of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Sharon (Aaron) DeEtte Lindstrom of Grand Rapids Mich.; and six great- grandchildren.

The family will be present to receive friends on Monday (Jan. 28, 2012), from 11 a.m. to noon, at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St., Hornell, where funeral services will be held at noon. Burial will be in Alfred Rural Cemetery.
