Due to the anticipated retirement of the Jamestown Public Schools' district superintendent, the Jamestown Public Schools board has reviewed hiring options available to the district.
Deke Kathman, district superintendent, recently announced his intention to retire effective July 31.
Based on their review, the board members have asked Dr. David O'Rourke, Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES district superintendent, to serve as the search consultant to the board. O'Rourke said the search process is on schedule as outlined below.
The board is committed to seeking input from various groups as the search process moves forward. The district will appoint faculty, support staff, administrative and student and community interview teams within the next few weeks. The interview teams will be involved in the final interview process and will be required to attend a preparation meeting. Input will be gathered from these teams as the board determines a profile and skill set that best fits the needs of the Jamestown community.
The timeline for the search process includes:
Application deadline - March 18, 2013
Board of Education will conduct preliminary interviews - April 22-24;
Dr. O'Rourke and his administrative team to meet with interview teams - April 17;
Final interviews conducted with interview teams and board members - May 6-9;
Board to negotiate contract with chosen candidate - May 9-28;
Board meeting for appointment of superintendent - June 4;
New superintendent to assume duties - on or about Aug. 1.
The district board of education will continue to provide updates and more information on the process as it moves forward.
