Jayhawk Swimmers Finish Second At Monroe Invitational

ROCHESTER - The Jamestown Community College men's and women's swim team combined to finish second at the Monroe Winter Invitational on Saturday.

The JCC women were second with 281 points behind the host Lady Tribunes with 500. Mercyhurst North East was third with 121, Herkimer County CC was fourth with 78 and Alfred State College was fifth with 23.

Monroe also led the men's standings with 621 points and Genesee was second with 233. JCC was third with 213 followed by Alfred State with 131, Herkimer County with 81 and Mercyhurst North East with 21.

For the JCC women, Victoria Matteson finished first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 3:01.11 and Kelsey Akin won the 200 backstroke in 2:28.77.

In second place were Victoria Matteson in the 100 butterfly (1:19.80) and the 400 medley relay team of Kelsey Akin, Sarah Midson, Victoria Matteson and Emily Windoft in a time of 4:59.92.

Finishing third were Emily Holt in the 1,650 freestyle (19:52.28) and the 100 breaststroke (1:24.22), Akin in the 200 freestyle (2:13.02) and the 500 freestyle (5:56.69), Hannah Grable in diving (128.15 points), Sarah Madison in the 200 backstroke (3:10.46), and the 800 freestyle relay team of Madison, Renee Massa, Holt and Akin (9:31.89).

For the JCC men, recording seconds were Phil Tubbs in diving with 239.90 points and the 400 medley relay team of Derek Hosier, John Trombetta, Tom Prinzi and Victor Hallett in a time of 4:05.11.

Taking thirds were Prinzi in the 1,650 freestyle (20:25.86), Trombetta in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.45), Nick Burt in the 200 butterfly (2:44.60) and Derek Hosier in the 600 freestyle (5:45.33),
