JCC Has Trouble On The Boards

Men Suffer Road Loss At Erie CC

BUFFALO Jamestown Community College was overwhelmed on the boards in losing a men's basketball game to Erie CC in NJCAA Region 3, Division II action Saturday afternoon.

Erie CC (4-0, 13-3) recorded 63 rebounds, including 28 was on the offensive boards, en route to dropping the Jayhawks (2-2, 10-9), 86-76.

Rayshawn Sumlin grabbed 18 rebounds (nine offensive) and Tobechuckwu Okafor 14 (six offensive).

The Jayhawks shot only 34 percent from the field (22-of-65) while Erie CC drilled 46 percent (35-of-77).

Davonte Dunham recorded 25 points, including 7-of-12 3-pointers, and Tyreek Jewell ended up with 22 points with 12-of-13 from the foul line where the Jayhawks were 23-of-31 for 74 percent. Jewell added 10 rebounds and Dunham had five assists.

Michael Forrest and Omar St. John came off the bench to score 13 and 11 points respectively. Reserve Devon Elliott sank 23 points, Keron Briggs 20 points and Sumlin 19 points for the winners. Briggs also handed out nine assists.

The score was tied five times and the lead changed hands seven times. The largest lead for the Jayhawks was five points in the first half and for Erie CC it was 16 points in the second half.

Erie CC outscored JCC, 40-36, in the first half and 46-40 after intermission.

JCC has a home date with Monroe CC at 7 p.m., Tuesday.
