She was born June 7,
1918, in Villenova, N.Y.,
the daughter of the late
Carl and Nellie (Abbey)
Mathewson.
Hazel and her husband,
Donald V. Crowell, whom
she married on Dec. 31,
1941, and who died on Oct.
9, 1998, owned and operat-
ed Green Banks Farm for 60
years. She was a teacher for
three years in East Leon
Country School and Clear
Creek Country School, be-
fore taking on the farm.
She was a member of the
Hamlet United Methodist
Church the National
Grange and Villenova
Grange for 80 years. Hazel
was a past member of the
National, State and County
Holstein Club, and member
of Home Bureau, Hamlet
Rebecca?s and the Farm
Bureau. She was deputy
town supervisor for 20
years.
She is survived by her
children: Robert D. (Laurie)
Crowell of South Dayton,
N.Y.; Mary (Albert) Brink-
erhoff of Livonia, N.Y.; Al-
ice (Keith) Perkins of War-
saw, N.Y.; Carol (John)
Dolphin of Brandon, Fla.;
Howard (Alyce) Crowell of
Forestville, N.Y.; and Betty
(Gino Dellanina) Crowell
of Camarillo, Calif.; 15
grandchildren and 29 great-
grandchildren.
Besides her parents and
husband she was preceded
in death by her grandson
Eric Crowell.
Visitation will be held at
Hills Funeral Chapel on
Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and
7-9 p.m.
Funeral services will be
held Wednesday, Jan. 16,
2013, at 2 p.m. at Hills Fun-
eral Chapel, 478 Balcom
Corners, Rt. 83, South Day-
ton, N.Y.. Pastor Bruce Fish
of the Cherry Creek-Leon
United Methodist Church
will be officiating. Burial
will be in the Villenova
Cemetery in the town of
Villenova.
