Kristina R. "Kris" Stewart, 69, of 22 Front St., Silver Creek, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 9 at Brooks Memorial Hospital following a four-year struggle with cervical and pancreatic cancer.
She was born Kristina Renate Schoenwald to her parents, the late Otto and Maria Schoenwald, on Feb. 15, 1943, in Koenigsberg, East Prussia (Germany). Kris arrived in the United States the day before President Kennedy's funeral in 1963.
She was a member of the Silver Creek community for more than 40 years, and will be remembered for her many years of dedication and service at the Silver Creek VFW as a hostess and honorary member of the Ladies' Auxiliary.
Kris is survived by a son, David Stewart of Oakland, Calif., and a daughter, DeMaris Stewart of James-town.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Samuel Cimino VFW Post 6472, 13 N. Main St. in Silver Creek.
