MAYVILLE - Renewed focus on "the little things" sparked Chautauqua Lake to a big second half and a 52-32 victory over Forestville in Division 3 girls basketball action on Tuesday night.
"We didn't play well in the first half and I thought Forestville handled our pressure," Chautauqua Lake coach Eric Schuster said. "In the second half we didn't make a lot of adjustments, we just talked about doing the little things better. We got some turnovers and rebounds and played much better (the rest of the way)."
The Lady Thunderbirds, still unbeaten at 7-0 overall and 3-0 in league, held a two-point advantage at the break, 20-18, but came back with 32 second-half points - 16 apiece in the third and fourth frames - to win going away.

Over that same span Forestville (5-5, 1-3), which was led by Alisha Szumigala's 11 points and 11 rebounds, could muster just 14 points.
Ashton Albanesius scored 16 points and had nine rebounds, Jenna Einink netted 14 points with 15 rebounds and Tara Hunt handed out six assists for the winners.
Einink also rejected six shots.

BIG QUARTER SPARKS MG
It all came together in the second quarter for the Maple Grove Lady Red Dragons.
Leading just 10-9 after the opening frame, five different Maple Grove (5-4, 3-1) players scored at least four points in the second quarter as the hosts outscored the Lady Panthers, 21-7, on the way to a 54-30 triumph.
"Everyone scored that quarter," Maple Grove coach Mary Bartkowski said. "They came out really hot, played well defensively and it all came together for us, finally."
Leading the balanced attack was Lauren Nickerson, who had a game-high 16 points and seven rebounds. Jordan Ahlstrom chipped in with 11 points and six assists, Emily Swanson had 10 points and seven boards and Emma Franczak finished with eight points and six rebounds.
Pine Valley's (3-4, 1-2) top scorer was Kayla Mansfield with 11 points. Laural Killock hauled in a team-high six rebounds.

FRANKLINVILLE EDGES WCS
WESTFIELD - Anna O'Neal hit the go-ahead free throw with 12 seconds left, giving Franklinville (4-5, 1-3) a 37-36 win over Westfield (4-5, 0-3).
"There was not a lot of scoring," Westfield head coach Rich Morrison said. "There were small runs the entire game. We played better in the second quarter, but in the third quarter, with the low scoring game that it was, we just couldn't catch up."
The Lady Wolverines had a chance at a go-ahead basket, but fell short, missing on a one-and-one opportunity from the charity stripe.
The Lady Panthers jumped out to a 9-6 lead after the first quarter before the Lady Wolverines won the second quarter, 9-4, taking a 15-13 lead into the break. The third quarter made the difference as Franklinville outscored Westfield, 14-9 in the third quarter. The Lady Wolverines held a 12-10 lead in the fourth to account for the final score.
O'Neal finished with eight points and 12 rebounds for Franklinville while Ashley Leederman chipped in eight points, 10 rebounds and six steals. Jen Blum had a team-high 11 points in the win.
For Westfield, Nina Manzella had a team-high 11 points, Emma Fermier had five points and six rebounds and Rachel Allen added eight points. Andrea Cooke contributed six rebounds in the loss.
