SOUTH DAYTON -The second and third quarters paved the way for streaking Maple Grove's seventh straight win and eighth in nine outings Monday night in Division 3 boys basketball.
Maple Grove outscored Pine Valley (1-2, 2-5) with a 39-8 margin in the second and third stanzas en route to a 83-43 victory.
''Maple Grove is heck of a team,'' said Pine Valley coach Mark Mansfield, who is pleased with his team's best first quarter this season although it trailed by a 27-19 spread. ''We handled the press well, but in the second and third we couldn't handle the press and made most of our 30 turnovers.''
Aaron Germain scored eight points and Will Soffel seven in the a 21-8 second quarter run for the Red Dragons. It was more of team effort when they went on a 19-0 spree in the third.
Germain led MG with 18 points and Soffel added 13 plus six rebounds, five assists and four steals. Germain also had six rebounds.
Spencer Sticek had 16 points, Jake Wilcox grabbed nine rebounds and Dan Wheeler six for Pine Valley.

THUNDERBIRDS WIN
FORESTVILLE - The Chautauqua Lake Thunderbirds (2-6, 1-2) used a big first half to hold off the Forestville Hornets (3-6, 1-2), 59-50, for their first Division 3 victory of the season.
After building a 12-8 first-quarter edge, the visitors bumped the lead to 32-20 by intermission.
The Hornets made a comeback and cut the lead to one point in the second half. However, Carter Davidson hit two big treys in the second half to secure the win for the Thunderbirds.
Ian Clute led Chautauqua Lake with 13 points and 10 rebounds while A.J. Hulton had 11 points and four assists. Cody Thomas had 10 points and six steals for the victors.
The Hornets were led by Alex Pleva's 18 points and Jacob Nosbisch's 12 points. CHAUTAUQUA LAKE (59)

COE PACES WESTFIELD
FRANKLINVILLE - Westfield's Jon Coe had a solid night as the Wolverines' offense and defense took control to earn a 78-37 win over host Franklinville (0-4, 1-7).
Coe hit 11 shots from the field for a game-high 22 points while Tanner Dahl added 14 points and Jordan Imm netted 11 points for the winners, who were up by just four points after the first quarter. Westfield (5-4) then outscored the Panthers 58-21 over the next three periods to put the game away.
