The Allegheny Highlands Council will recognize its 2012 class of Eagle Scouts on Sunday, Jan. 13, at St. Bonaventure University.
The dinner includes the 37 Eagle Scouts, their parents and scoutmaster and key council officials. The dinner will be at 1 p.m. at Doyle Hall. An invitation is extended to anyone who is an Eagle Scout and would like to attend. To make reservations, call the Scout Service Center during normal business hours at 665-2697.
"It is important for us to recognize these young men collectively, and individually as the cream of our crop," said Curt Crandall, member of the organizing committee and an Eagle Scout himself. "This is a terrific event. We are looking forward to our keynote speaker, Dick Farrell, who is the assistant director of security at the Buffalo Airport. Most relevant about Dick, besides that he is an Eagle Scout from Belfast in our council, is that he served in the Secret Service for many years. He helped protect President Gerald Ford, who was our only Eagle Scout President. Dick has some terrific stories to share with our scouts."

"This is also an opportunity for Eagle Scouts of all ages to assemble," said Tony Evans, also a member of the committee and Cattaraugus County youth director. "Consider this an open invitation to any Eagle Scout to join this 'Gathering of Eagles' and 'smell the smoke of the campfire' again. We'd love to have you."
The Allegheny Highlands Council serves over 4000 youth every year, and operates Camp Merz in Mayville, New York, and Elk Lick Scout Reserve in Smethport, Pennsylvania. They are the largest youth serving agency in the Twin Tiers.
"2012 was the 100th anniversary of the inception of the Eagle Scout rank, so this Class of Eagle Scouts will also be celebrating a very special benchmark in the Boy Scouts of America," said Dale Carlson, council president.
